Ohio Voice For Foster Parents
|
What have we heard? We have heard from several past and current foster parents in the past few months. There has been a wide range of information / concerns. A new topic that we have just heard about, and more input is needed. This topic is big one that leads to a great deal of problem. Foster parents not being allowed to be a part of the court hearings or county meetings. We have had several foster parents report that the case worker or the counties legal team refused to allow foster parents in to the hearings or meetings, no reason was given. This is more than feeling left out this is being pushed out. The question should be how as a foster parent can you be a member of the care team or treatment team if your as the foster parent of a youth in your home, not allowed to listen, share, present evidence to the reviewers or judge? This is not how I read the JFS rule on team care. One general topic was on the training, the common interest was the retaking of the same class over and over year after year. Nothing new in training materials.

Lack of a system to find out state law or rule changes, until after the fact. The lack of knowledge and know how from a few caseworkers, not able to reach the workers. Lack of follow up and failure to let them know of meetings, those last minute visits or appointments, those, OH I forgot to tell you about. Appointments being made for the foster youth, with out concern of the foster families. Cost for making repairs, damage done by foster youth, who pays for damage to a foster home has been a big topic. That do I have insurance coverage, finding they do not have coverage.
Lack of foster parents being allowed to have
input or voice their concerns / support / issues in the case plan.
Few had comments on youth with a history of making false claims to get
their way. To get back at a foster parent.
